Established in 1946, Estée Lauder Companies, Inc. continues to be one of the most technologically-advanced cosmetics manufacturers in the world. It has expanded its brand portfolio to more than 9,000 skin care, fragrance, makeup, and hair care products, and continues to launch 300 novel offerings every year. Notwithstanding changes in its management and market positioning, Estée Lauder still maintains it’s its original vision of “bringing the best to everyone (it) touches.

Husband-and-wife team Joseph and Estée Lauder founded the company and started with only four products: the Super Rich All-Purpose Creme, Skin Lotion, Creme Pack, and Cleansing Oil. Eighteen years later, the company launched Aramis, a grooming products line for men. It was also around this time that Estée Lauder introduced the wildly successful Clinique brand, which was marketed as the first dermatologist-tested, non-allergenic cosmetic line in the world.

Estée Lauder continued to actively launch several other brands from the 1970’s onwards. It diversified its offerings with Prescriptives, Lab Series Skincare for Men, and Origins Natural Resources in the earlier part of the decade. The 1990’s was an era of partnerships and buyouts. In 1993, the company partnered with designer Tommy Hilfiger. Two years later, the company launched Bobbi Brown, a line for professional makeup artists. Estée Lauder also sealed a licensing agreement with top designer Donna Karan and bought Aveda. Just a year later, it acquired M·A·C. Estée Lauder also launched its online sales division during the early years of the internet in 1999.

Today, Estée Lauder has a full-time workforce of 26,000, stationed all over the world. It continues to take new brands under its wings, including Jo Malone, Darphin, Bumble and Bumble, Michael Kors Beauty, Flirt!, American Beauty, Good Skin, Sean John Fragrances, Grassroots, Missoni Profumi, Tom Ford Beauty, and Daisy Fuentes, among many others. The ‘faces’ of Estée Lauder have always been iconic, beautiful women, such as American supermodel Carolyn Murphy, Gwyneth Paltrow, Ethiopian supermodel Liya Kebede, and Elizabeth Hurley.

Estée Lauder has an annual Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign, which aims to raise money for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. The campaign has made over $3 million since it was started in 1993.
